My wife Michelle and I owned a Thrift Store, called Everybody’s Store.
We started this business from scratch when we moved from Australia in 2002. Neither of us had ever run a thrift store before.
We worked with the Community to provide a economical way for them to buy all sorts of goods. As we got to know are customers, one thing became painfully obvious. Many of them were very “narrow” in their thinking. This is not a criticism, but an observation. A number of those we spoke to aged in their 50’s & 60’s had NEVER been to Erie. Erie is our nearest “major” city and is about 45 minutes drive from our sleepy little town. This was staggering to us. In the short time we had lived here, we were going to Erie, 3 or 4 times a week, sometimes just to get a coffee at Ember Forge and a meal at My Thai.
For somebody that only knows our town and maybe what they read in our local Newspaper or hear on the town radio, (which has it’s own slant on life ) can you imagine how restricted their knowledge is.
I guess we are all restricted in our thinking because of the way we were brought up by our parents and those they associated with, then as we grew up by our own associations with our friends.
I became a member of The Lions Club International and in a short time became the president of our local club, (King Lion). While in this position most of my thinking was in terms of the Lions Club.
Several years later we remodeled our home, and guess what we were continually thinking about….remodeling stuff. So for us whatever our interest is, that’s what our thinking is focused on. And our thinking become are actions. There are many who have a passion in a particular field and their life is devoted, morning noon and night, in learning as much and becoming the best they can in that field. Their thinking on other areas of life becomes almost none existent. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but I believe they should let other “thoughts” become part of their life as well as their passion. Even their relationships can be affected by this narrow thinking. Changing how one thinks is hard..think about this. stepping out into the unknown is scary. Everyone has a comfort zone, redefining it is a big step.
We all start as beginners with our passion. It’s not where we start, it’s where we finish that counts; together with knowing how did we got there.
Our story when we started with affiliate marketing was one of trial and error, mostly errorWe looked at all the free and low cost solutions to making money on the internet.
We didn’t have much money.
When we Googled “how to make money online”, there were plenty answers out there, however most of them were just wanting to take our money. In all the programs we looked at, there was always something left out of their programs. We didn’t realize this until much later when we fully understood what was needed to make money online. The things that were left out were things that made a big difference to our success or failure.
We got ourselves in a position where we needed to make some money to pay our bills.
We were the ones that had more month than money.
Internet Marketing for Beginners needs to be simple to understand. At least it was for us, we needed to be taken one step at a time (baby steps)and be given the time to understand each step.
Many of the systems we’d looked at, kept pushing for additional courses, webinars, add-ons’ that cost even more money than the original program. We found these all ended up as being distractions from the main purpose of building a website and making money. They wanted more and more of our hard earned money.
After spending lots of our money on personal coaching programs, video training, audio training and many other ways, that would promise you the world while they are taking your money. The price points that we paid on these types of training were, $2,500, $499.00, $249.00, $97.00 and lots of other low cost programs.
You can be fooled by these expensive, “all inclusive” deals as they make it sound so easy that nobody could possibly fail.
Well, as a warning, we found they were not all milk and honey, and yes you can get involved, spent $2,500 and still did not succeed.
We really tried working hard, spending hours thinking that was the answer to making money online, by following their stupid systems.
Eventually we had to take on a regular job to pay the bills. Going back to a JOB, (Just Over Broke), was a mind numbing experience. We kept looking for an answer. We wanted an independent lifestyle and the money to support it.
I don’t know how we found it but searching the internet one day we did come across Wealthy Affiliates.
Our biggest personal challenge was Wealthy Affiliate’s claim that you can join for free. Our experience told us it cannot be worth anything if it was free. There must be a catch.
Hey, all they wanted was an email address, no money, no credit card, no address. In return, they would supply the know how and all the things you needed to get started with your own online business. Not only do they offer training, support and coaching, they also provide the essential tools needed for running an online business.
What did we have to lose, we put in our email address and away we went again not expecting too much…..it was free.
Well, as we got involved we saw that there are many thousands of members that are making money and are prepared to help you do the same. Lots of advice when you ask for it and encouragement….all free. This was almost too good to be true. So don’t just sit on the sidelines. Get involved and give it a go. Start Now.!
